As part of the 16 Days of Activism in November, the SGBV Forum put out a call for student submissions to their new gender-based violence activism zine, ‘Rise Up & Speak Out.’
Students who have been supported by the dedicated FRASAC staff member who works in Student Services were open and brave in providing anonymous testimony of how FRASAC helped them. We also had submissions of poetry, reflections on music, and a piece from the Director of Wellbeing & Equality about the need for the student movement to embrace the decriminalisation of sex work. Two of our alumni reflected on their activism during their time at St Andrews, hoping to inspire students to get involved in gender-based violence activism in a way that works for them.
We hope the zine will encourage you to get involved in activism. Perhaps that will look like going to the Say No exhibition and events at the Wardlaw Museum, reading books which look at some aspect of gender-based violence, or checking out the Student Activism Guide to give you some pointers of where to start with your own campaigns.
Check out the zine on the Equality Committee webpage, and at this link.
