Democracy Review Results
Over the past two days, we’ve been asking all students at St Andrews to have their say on the outcome of our recent Democracy Review – a piece of work undertaken to help us put students at the heart of everything we do. Undertaken as part of the Change Programme, this process involved a huge amount of consultation and engagement, with a survey, interviews and focus groups helping us develop the proposed changes.
In total 1088 students voted in the referendum on whether to accept or reject the Heads of Terms recommendations as set out in the report. A turnout of 20% of the student body was needed to reach the threshold to make this decision binding (also known as a quorum). The result has been certified by the Association’s Returning Officer as the following:
- 852 for the proposed changes
- 200 against the proposed changes
- 36 abstentions
This means students have supported the outcome of the Democracy Review, and the Union will now take the proposals for final confirmation to its Trustee Board meeting on 17th December.
We’ll endeavour to update you in the new year with a plan for the next steps.
Thank you to everyone who has engaged in this process.
