On Tuesday 15th October we hosted our first Safe Night Out Forum, organised by Bars Manager, Susan (Pee) McCulloch and Director of Wellbeing, Caitlin Ridgway.
The aim of the event was to unite the licensed trades in St Andrews, university staff and students to allow knowledge sharing and align standard practice throughout St Andrews, so that if a student is in need of support on a night out they can expect the same response no matter what venue they are in.
Over 50 attendees heard from a number of industry professionals including PC Emma Fisher, Community Safety and Crime Reduction Officer who gave a presentation on Bystander Training, With You who spoke about Overdose Awareness and gave training on the safe use of Naloxone, they also provided those attending with Naloxone kits to take back to their premises and Crew who talked about spiking and general drug awareness.
Going forward we will aim to make this an annual event as it’s a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge and talk to others to ultimately provide a better, safer experience for students.
