The Barron Theatre is the home of Mermaids, and the only dedicated student theatre in St Andrews, and is run entirely by students.  It houses a 60 seat black box studio theatre, as well as Mermaids’ extensive prop and costume store, a workshop, a meeting room and an office. It is run by student volunteers from the Mermaids Committee (the University of St Andrews Performing Arts Fund), in conjunction with the Students' Assocation.

The Barron, with its intimate seating provides a unique space in which students can play and experiment with traditional and more avant-garde forms of theatre and other performing arts.  The “black box” structure provides a blank canvas which is endlessly adaptable an can be used for anything from full scale plays to one man shows, poetry readings and acoustic gigs.

If you have any enquiries please contact Mathilde, the Barron Manager, at barron@st-andrews.ac.uk.

To book the Barron, please consult the calendar

Please also remember that the theatre is run and staffed entirely by students. If you have booked the theatre and are waiting for someone to open up, please give them ten minutes before you phone the rest of the committee - they may be coming from a lecture which finished on the hour on the North Haugh!
